Teams are selected after participation at the Official Equestrian Saddle Seat National Trails. National trails consist of a 3 Day elimination process using five (5) Senior Saddle Seat Equitation Judges and a high-low scoring system.

Riders could participate at National Trails only after qualifying for provincial colours during the Saddle Seat season. Provincial Teams consisted of a maximum of six (6) Provincial riders per Gait. The following provincial teams participated at National trails 2008 in Bloemfontein:

·        North Gauteng

·        Eastern Province

·        Western Province

·        Free State

·        Northern Cape (Griquas)
